Housing

Specialist housing advice and priority support for those who have served. We help you navigate the path to a stable home.

Securing the right housing is a cornerstone of a successful transition to civilian life.

As a Gold Award holder of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, Stockport is committed to ensuring that our Armed Forces community is never disadvantaged.

Whether you are looking for social housing, facing homelessness, or exploring home ownership, SAFCO and our partners are here to guide you through the local systems.

Your Housing Rights in Stockport

Under the Stockport Council Housing Allocation Policy, members of the Armed Forces community (including bereaved spouses) often qualify for “Additional Preference” or higher priority bands if they have an urgent housing need.

Ex-service personnel are often exempt from the standard “local connection” requirements. This means you can apply for housing in Stockport even if you haven’t lived here recently, provided you apply within five years of discharge.

If you are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, Op FORTITUDE is a dedicated central referral pathway for veterans. We can help you access this immediately to find supported housing or independent living.

If you require home adaptations due to a service-related injury, we can signpost you to the Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) and specialist providers like Stoll or Haig Housing.
